How to Place a Garage Door Opener into Program Mode for myQ Setup

Follow the steps below to identify which brand of garage door opener system you have and how to locate the learn or program button to place it into program mode. 

Chamberlain

LiftMaster, Do-It, Master Mechanic, Raynor, True Value, and Craftsman are compatible with Chamberlain technology.

Facing the garage door, the learn button can be located on one of the side panels or the back panel and may be under the light lens. 

Note: For wall-mounted garage door openers, the learn button is located on the operator under the cover.  

To put Opener in Programming Mode:

• Press and release the learn button.
  • The LED light should turn on.

Genie and Overhead Door Intellicode

Type 1: Genie/Overhead Door Current Models 

The "Program Set" button is typically located on the bottom panel of the garage door opener.

To put the Opener in Programming Mode:

• Press the "Program Set" button for 2 - 3 seconds and release when Blue or Purple LED light(s) turn On.
• If the Purple LED light is blinking on and off, then STOP, the opener is in programming Mode.
• If a Blue LED light is on, then press and release Program Set button again. Now Purple LED light should be blinking on and off. If the Purple LED light is blinking on and off, then STOP, the opener is in programming Mode.

TYPE 2: Genie Older Models

Facing the garage door, the "Learn Code" button is typically located on the back panel of the garage door opener and may be located under a light lens. 

To put the Opener in Programming Mode: 

• Press "Learn Code Button" for 1 - 2 seconds and release.
• LED light should be on or blinking on and off.

TYPE 3: Overhead Door Older Models

The "Learn Code" button is typically located on the bottom panel of the garage door opener.

To put the Opener into Programming Mode:

• Press "Learn Code" button for 1 - 2 seconds and release.
• LED light should be on or blinking on and off.

Linear

Facing the garage door, the learn button is typically located on the left side panel or the back panel of the garage door opener.

To put Opener in Programming Mode:

• Press learn button for 1 - 2 seconds and release.
• LED light should be turn on or begin blinking on and off.

Stanley

Facing the garage door, the learn button is typically located on the back panel of the garage door opener.

To put Opener in Programming Mode:

• Press and release learn button.
• LED light should turn on.
