myQ App Won't Open or Close Garage Door

There are various reasons as to why the myQ app won't open or close your garage door:

Device Control

When using the myQ app, you can choose to either tap once or press and hold to open or close the garage door. See Customize the Open and Close Commands in the myQ App

Door Sensor is in Monitor Mode

If you see "Monitor Door Only" in the app, your door sensor may not be paired with the opener. This can happen if you recently erased your remotes from the garage door opener or replaced the receiver/logic board, see Re-pairing the Garage Door Opener to the myQ Smart Garage Hub or Smart Garage Control.

How to Fix It:

  1. Open the myQ app and tap Monitor Door Only.
  2. Select the brand of your garage door opener.
  3. Locate the learn/program button on your garage door opener and tap Found It.
  4. Press and quickly release the learn/program button on your garage door opener motor head and tap Next.
    • This will cause your garage door opener to move.
  5. When the garage door opener is paired, tap Next.
  6. Tap the garage door in the app to activate the door.

Mobile Device Not Connected to the Internet

Verify your mobile device is connected to the internet from either a router or mobile service provider. Note: The app may be temporarily unresponsive when switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.

Switch to Mobile Data

Attempt to use the myQ app using your mobile data by disconnecting your phone from Wi-Fi. If the myQ app works, troubleshoot the Wi-Fi router connection and contact the router manufacturer/ISP if necessary.
See When to Contact Your Internet Service Provider (ISP)

Check the myQ App for an Error

  • Offline - Ensure the myQ device has a connection to the Internet. Unplug the router and plug it back in and see if this restores the internet connection for the myQ device.
  • Monitor Door Only - The Wi-Fi hub is not paired to the garage door opener. See Monitor Door Only Mode to pair the hub to the garage door opener.
  • Close Error - Make sure there are no obstructions or misaligned sensors preventing the door from closing. Once the issue preventing the door from closing has been resolved, operate the garage door opener locally from the control panel on the wall or a handheld remote control to clear the error. See How to resolve a Close error in the myQ app.

Garage Door Opener Is Not Working

If your garage door opener no longer has power, the myQ app will not activate the garage door opener. If there is an issue with the garage door opener preventing normal operation such as stripped gears or a bad logic board, these will need to be resolved to use the myQ app.

Test the garage door opener from the remote or door control. If the garage door opener does not work, troubleshoot the garage door opener.

Troubleshooting a myQ Smart Garage Door Opener When It Won't Power Up

Hub and Sensor Are Out of Sync

If you are experiencing Close Errors or unexpected behavior in the myQ app after two or more attempts, it is recommended that you operate the garage door opener locally from the control panel on the wall or a handheld remote control and fully open and close the door twice.

Hub Is Too Close to the Motor Unit

In some instances, interference may occur when the hub has been installed too close to the motor unit preventing the hub from controlling the garage door opener.

  1. Unplug the hub and move it away at least 4-6 feet from the motor-head. Test to see if the door will open and close. If this takes care of the issue, the hub will need to be installed further away from the motor unit.
  2. If the hub has to be installed further away from the opener, it must still be installed inside the garage so that the flashing light is visible from the garage door.
  3. Reposition the hub on the bracket. Turn it 180 degrees.

Please reference the video below for more help.

 Issue with the Door Sensor

The door sensor sends signals to the hub when the door moves to verify if the door is in the open, closed or moving state. If there is an issue with the signal getting to the hub, the app can report the door in the incorrect position.

  1. If the door sensor battery no longer has power, the Wi-Fi hub will not receive a signal, and the Wi-Fi Hub device will not command the garage door opener to activate. See How to Test the Door Sensor
  2. Check to make sure that door sensor is not installed upside down.
  3. The door sensor can be no further than 30ft from the hub.

Hub Is Not Connected to the myQ Server and Does Not Have a Solid Green LED

If your router has no power or lost connection to the internet, the Wi-Fi Hub cannot communicate with the router to receive any commands. The app will show that the opener is offline.

  1. Check the Wi-Fi hub. There should be a solid green light.
  2. Unplug the router and plug it back in. See if this restores connection. If it doesn't reconnect, see Unable to Connect a myQ Garage, myQ Smart Garage Hub, or Smart Garage Control to Home Wi-Fi Network Overview to further troubleshoot
