myQ Face Detection | Set Up, Manage, & Troubleshoot

What is myQ Face Detection?

myQ Face Detection enhances your home’s security by using your camera to recognize familiar faces. This helps you receive smarter alerts and keep better track of who’s coming and going. This feature is available in the US and Canada, excluding Illinois, Texas, and Washington.

Face Detection is supported on all myQ cameras and requires a myQ Video Subscription or a 30-day free trial.


Set Up Face Detection

For myQ Account Owners

  1. Open the myQ app.
  2. Access Account Menu:
    • If your app shows Menu in the bottom right corner, tap Menu.
    • If your app shows your Initials in the top left corner, tap your Initials.
  3. Tap Face Detection.
    • If you have a video subscription, tap myQ Video Monitoring first, then tap Face Detection
  4. Tap How It Works to learn more or Start Scanning to continue.
  5. Tap Get Started or Start Scanning.
  6. Select the myQ Camera(s) you would like to enable Face Detection on, and tap Save.
  7. Read the information on the Consent page and tap Accept.
  8. Read the steps on the Let's Get Ready to Scan screen and tap I’m Ready.
  9. Follow the in-app instructions to scan your face.

Note: After you are finished, you may send an invite to existing Co-Owners so they may also use Face Detection and its features.

For myQ Co-Owners

To begin, you will need an invitation from the myQ Account owner requesting for you to scan your face.  

  1. Tap on the Face Detection Invitation.
  2. Tap Continue.
    • Here on the Face Detection screen, you will see the name of the myQ User who invited you.
  3. Tap on the name of the myQ User who invited you.
  4. Read the information on the Consent page and tap Accept.
  5. Read the steps on the Let's Get Ready to Scan screen and tap I’m Ready.
  6. Follow the In-app steps to scan your face.

Once completed, your face will be recognized by the myQ Account Owner's cameras.

Adding Faces for Users Without a myQ Account

Account Owners or Co-Owners can add up to 16 additional faces by following these steps:

  1. Tap your Initials in the upper left corner.
  2. Tap Face Detection.
  3. Under Faces Without myQ, tap Start Scanning.
  4. On the Age Verification screen, select the appropriate answer.
    • If under 13, additional consent is required.
  5. Enter the person’s name and tap Add.
  6. Hand the phone to the person being scanned and tap Next.
  7. They must read and accept the Consent page.
  8. Tap I’m Ready on the "Let's Get Ready to Scan" screen.
  9. Follow the in-app steps to scan their face.
  10. Repeat for additional faces or exit.

Managing Face Detection

View Face Detection Notifications

  1. Launch the myQ app.
  2. Tap History at the bottom of the screen.
  3. You can now view three types of events:
    • Video: See recorded motion events from myQ cameras.
    • Access: View a list of myQ device activations.
    • Activity: See changes made to your myQ account, such as new faces scanned.

Add, Edit, or Re-Scan Faces 

  1. Open the myQ app.
  2. Access Account Menu:
    • If your app shows Menu in the bottom right corner, tap Menu.
    • If your app shows your Initials in the top left corner, tap your Initials.
  3. Tap Face Detection. If you have a video subscription, tap myQ Video Monitoring first, then tap Face Detection
  4. You will see a list of existing faces that have been scanned and activated. You can:
    • Tap the name of a user to Re-scan or Delete their scan.
    • Tap Scan Faces to add a new face.

    Pause Face Detection

    1. Open the myQ app.
    2. Access Account Menu:
      • If your app shows Menu in the bottom right corner, tap Menu.
      • If your app shows your Initials in the top left corner, tap your Initials
    3. Tap myQ Video Monitoring
    4. Tap Face Detection.
    5. Tap Settings.
    6. Toggle off the myQ Camera of your choice.
    7. Tap Save & Continue.
    8. Review the pop-up and tap Pause if you wish to continue.

    Note: Pausing will turn off face detection until it is manually turned back on.

    Do I need a subscription?

    Yes, a myQ Video Subscription or free trial is required.

    How many faces can I scan?

    You can scan up to 16 total faces per myQ account.

    Can I scan someone who doesn’t have a myQ account?

    Yes. Account Owners and Co-Owners can add guests by handing them the device for consent and scanning.

    Where do I view alerts?

    Open the myQ app, tap History, and go to the Access tab.

    Which cameras are compatible?

    All myQ cameras support Face Detection.
