My door still closes when I break the safety sensor beam

The safety reversing sensors protect people, pets, and automobiles by projecting an invisible beam across the path of the garage door. If the beam is interrupted while the door is closing, the door will stop and reverse to the full open position. The garage door will not close until the obstruction is removed. The garage door opener is designed to only respond to a break in the safety sensor beam while the door is closing. However, if the trolley is installed backwards, the opener will work in reverse the motor will think the door is closing when the door is actually opening, and vice versa. Check the installation of the trolley and be sure the trolley is facing the proper direction.

Trolley on backwards (chain and belt drives only)

If the trolley is installed backwards, the door will run in the opposite direction intended when the opener is activated.

  1. Stand underneath the motor facing the garage door.

  2. Look up at the trolley. You should see the threaded bolt that connects the chain or belt on the left side of the trolley.

If the threaded bolt is on the wrong side of the trolley, refer to the Owner's Manual for steps on the installation of the trolley.
