How to test the Protector System

WARNING
Failure to test and adjust the Protector system may result in SEVERE INJURY or DEATH to persons trapped by a closing garage door.

Your garage door opener is equipped with safety reversing sensors that prevent the door from closing on a detected obstruction in the path of the door.

To test the Protector System please follow these steps:

  1. Open your garage door.
  2. Locate your safety reversing sensors. They are located on each side of the garage door about 4-1/2" off the floor on each side of the rail.
  3. Place an object in the path of the safety reversing sensors causing the LED on the receiving sensor to turn off.
  4. Verify the LED is off, if not use the wing nut to remove the sensor from the bracket, reinstall and realign. Use a different object if necessary to obstruct the beam and repeat steps 3 and 4.
  5. If the LED never turns off contact your local installer for service.
  6. With the LED off, press the remote control button to close the door.
  7. The garage door may close a few inches and reverse or remain in its position. The garage door light will blink 10 times, or you will hear 10 clicks.
  8. If the garage door closes, contact a trained garage door technician for service.

Professional service is required if the opener closes the door when the safety reversing sensor is obstructed.

The garage door opener will not close from a remote if the indicator light in either sensor is off (alerting you to the fact that the sensor is misaligned or obstructed).

The garage door can be closed by pressing and holding the door control push bar until down travel is completed.
