Garage Door Safety Sensors |How to Position When Installing Two Openers

Garage door safety reversing sensors protect people, pets, and vehicles from the path of a closing garage door. They work by projecting an invisible beam across the garage door opening. If anything interrupts the beam while the door is closing, the door automatically reverses to prevent contact.

These sensors are mounted on both sides of the garage door opening, no higher than 6 inches (15 cm) above the floor. Each sensor has a small LED light to indicate power and proper alignment:

  • Amber LED = sending sensor
  • Green LED = receiving sensor

SAFETY WARNING

Power must be disconnected before installing the sensors.
To prevent serious injury or death from a closing garage door:

  • Correctly connect and align the safety reversing sensor. This required safety device must not be disabled.
  • Install the sensor beam no higher than 6" (15 cm) above the garage floor.
  • Mount the sensor brackets on each side of the garage door, no higher than 6" above the floor.

Positioning Sensors with Two Garage Door Openers

  1. Install Two Separate Sets of Sensors
    • Each garage door opener requires its own sending and receiving sensors.
    • Do not share sensors between doors.
  2. Sending Sensors Placement
    • Identify the sending sensor by its amber (yellow) LED.
    • When installing two doors side by side, place the sending sensors back-to-back in the space between the doors.
    • Mount them 4–6 inches (10–15 cm) above the floor.
  3. Receiving Sensors Placement
    • Identify the receiving sensor by its green LED.
    • Mount one receiving sensor opposite each sending sensor.
    • Ensure the sensors face each other directly and are level.
  4. Check Alignment
    • After installation, verify that both sending and receiving sensors are properly aligned.
    • The LEDs should glow steadily when aligned correctly.
    • Misaligned sensors may prevent the doors from closing
