Troubleshooting Safety Reversing Sensors When Both LEDs Off

When your garage door does not close and the garage door opener lights flash 10 times, there are a few simple steps required to figure out the issue.

Note: Any garage door opener or replacement logic board manufactured after February 2022, will no longer have this feature.

The safety reversing sensors must be connected and aligned correctly before the garage door opener will move in the down direction. Temporarily until you determine the issue, the garage door can be closed by pressing and holding the door control push bar until down travel is completed.

NOTICE
The Energy Conservation/Sleep Mode/Low Power Mode feature in Security+2.0 has been removed from all Garage Door Openers and applicable Gate Operators for production beginning in February 2022. These updated products are marked on product labels and packaging with an ‘MC’ suffix.

Tip: Security+ 2.0 garage door openers have an energy conservation feature. To learn more see Security+ 2.0 Energy Conservation Feature

Note: For troubleshooting safety sensors 041-0136, those having square LED lights and a bolt through the sensor, see article Features and Benefits of the 041-0136 Safety Sensors

When both sensors are not lit, it can be one of the following:

Check The Installation and Wiring Connections

  1. Install the safety reversing sensors if you have not done so, this will correct the issue. If the safety sensors are installed, move on to the wiring.
  2. Check the wiring from the safety reversing sensors to the garage door opener.
  3. Ensure the white wires are connected to the white terminals on the garage door opener.
  4. Ensure the white/black wires are connected to the black terminals on the opener.
  5. Gently tug on the wires to make sure they are properly secured.
  6. Press the button on the remote control to close the door. If the door closes then the garage door opener is working properly.

Check the Safety Reversing Sensors

  1. Remove the sensors from the brackets.
  2. Remove the wires from the wire nuts or cut the sensor wires 12" from the sensors.
  3. Strip both ends of wires from each sensor and twist like colored wires together. Proceed with both sensors to the garage door opener motor unit.
  4. Remove existing wires from the white and grey terminals on the back of the operator.
  5. Attach or insert white wires into the white terminal and black/white striped wires into the grey terminal.
  6. Point the sensors at each other - if both sensor's LEDs turn on, there is an issue with your wiring. Replace the wires between the opener and the sensors. If the LEDs DO NOT turn on, replace the sensors.

Note: If the issue continues after replacing the sensors, replace the logic board.
