My garage door opener light bulbs keep burning out
Incandescent light bulb filaments are composed of a thin, delicate wire. When the light bulb is shaken or bumped, the filament can crack or completely break, causing the light bulb to burn out. Therefore, the garage door opener must be mounted securely to prevent movement or vibration from damaging the light bulb. Check the mounting of the garage door opener, or try replacing the incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent (CFL) or rough service bulb.
Check the mounting of the opener
- Examine the bolts that hold the motor unit to the hanging brackets. Tighten the bolts, if needed.
- Gently push on the side of the motor unit. If the motor unit sways from side to side, install a cross brace the hanging brackets. This will prevent the motor unit from moving or vibrating when the opener runs.
If you have performed both of the steps above and the light bulbs are still burning out, try installing a Motor Vibration Isolator Kit (Part # 89LM). This kit consists of a set of rubber grommets that are inserted between the motor and the hanging brackets. The kit is designed to reduce motor vibration and is easy to install.
