Wi-Fi Garage Door Opener | Blinking Blue and Green LED, Unable to Connect to Wi-Fi

Blinking blue and green LED
A blinking blue and green LED means the opener connected to your phone but cannot reach your Wi‑Fi router. This is usually caused by weak Wi‑Fi, incorrect router settings, network changes, or saved Wi‑Fi settings that need to be reconfigured.

Check your home internet connection for an outage, then restart your router.

Opener was previously connected? If the opener was working normally and is now offline, power cycle the opener and router first. If it doesn't reconnect, continue with the steps below.

If your garage door opener has built-in Wi-Fi, continue troubleshooting below. If you have a myQ Smart Garage Hub, see Smart Garage Hub or Smart Garage Control | Offline in myQ App instead.

Before You Begin

🪛 You will need: A ladder.

✅ Wi-Fi requirements: Your home Wi-Fi password, and a strong 2.4GHz signal in the garage (5GHz networks are not supported). See myQ Wi-Fi Network Requirements and Router Settings.

📱 Bluetooth: Turned on for your phone. The opener pairs over Bluetooth first, before it connects to Wi-Fi

🔎 Check first: If the myQ app shows an error code, see myQ Error Codes and How to Resolve Them before continuing.

Using a VPN? Here's what that means and how to check.+

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) reroutes and encrypts your internet traffic through another server, which can slow your connection enough to interfere with setup. To check if one is active: on your phone, open Settings and look for a VPN option (usually under Wi-Fi, Network, or General settings), check your app list for a VPN app, or look for a key or shield icon in your status bar, which usually means a VPN is currently active. If you use a VPN, choose one that protects your Wi-Fi network without reducing speed, or temporarily turn it off during setup.

Steps to Fix a Blinking Blue and Green LED

⏱ ABOUT 5 MINUTES

Step 1: Check for Recent Network Changes

If your Wi-Fi name, password, router, or internet service provider changed recently, see myQ Device Offline After Wi-Fi or Router Change | How to Reconnect instead of continuing below.

Already tried those reconnect steps, or don't recall a recent network change? Continue to Step 2.

Step 2: Confirm the Wi-Fi Signal

Hold your phone where the opener is installed and check the signal.

A strong Wi‑Fi signal is required for the opener to reach your router. If your phone shows one bar or frequently disconnects, the opener may not be able to connect.

If the signal is weak: see Improve myQ Device Wi-Fi Signal Strength.

Step 3: Restart the Opener

Disconnect and reconnect power to the opener.

If it has a battery backup, disconnect the AC cord first, then the battery, reconnect the battery first, then the AC cord.

Success: The LED turns solid green.

If not: continue to Step 4.

Step 4: Restart the Router

Disconnect and reconnect power to your router. Once your internet is back, repeat Step 3 to restart the opener.

Success: The LED turns solid green.

If not: continue to Step 5.

Step 5: Clear Wi-Fi Settings

Press and hold the black adjustment button between the arrows on the motor unit.

Hold until you hear three beeps.

The LED will turn off when the Wi‑Fi settings have been cleared.

Step 6: Run Setup Again

  1. Open the myQ app.
  2. Tap Settings ⚙ (gear icon) in the bottom-right corner.
  3. Tap Devices & automations.
  4. Tap Add a new device.
  5. Tap Garage Door Opener.
  6. Follow the in-app steps to run setup again, with your phone close to the opener. This applies whether it's your first setup attempt or you're reconnecting an opener that was already online and working.

If the LED is still blinking blue and green: if MAC address filtering is enabled on your router, the opener may be blocked from joining the network. See myQ Wi-Fi Network Requirements and Router Settings.

If the LED Changes Color During Setup

A blinking blue and green LED may change color as the opener progresses through the connection process. Solid green means the opener is online and should be working normally. If it changes from blinking blue and green and stays stuck on another color, tap that color below to see what it means and what to do next.

Did the LED change?

  • Yes, select the new LED color above.
  • No, and MAC address filtering isn't the cause, contact your internet provider to confirm your router is passing traffic correctly.
