myQ Video Doorbell FAQ

What is the myQ Video Doorbell?

The myQ Video Doorbell is a smart camera that lets you see and communicate with visitors at your door using the myQ app. It features live streaming, motion detection, and video recording capabilities when paired with a myQ Video Storage plan.

Why can’t I add the Video Doorbell in the myQ app?

  • The Bluetooth connection may have timed out. Press and hold the reset button until the LED turns solid blue, then release. The LED will return to blinking blue.
  • Make sure you select Video Doorbell during setup and connect to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network using the correct password.
  • The device was not properly factory reset or may be linked to a previous account.

Why can’t I see live video from the doorbell in the myQ app?

  • Doorbells rely on a strong Wi-Fi connection. If the signal is weak or unstable, you might experience delays or interruptions in video and audio feeds. Check your Wi-Fi signal strength on the live view window or in device settings.
  • Consider moving your router closer or using a Wi-Fi extender to improve Wi-Fi signal strength.

Why don’t I see any recorded videos?

  • You need to be enrolled in a free trial or have an active myQ Video Storage subscription to access video history.
  • Make sure Event Recording is turned on in Device Settings, and that no filters are enabled in the History tab.

What should I do if I lost screws during installation?

  • You can replace the mounting screws with standard #6 x ¾" wood screws. These are used to secure the mounting bracket to the wall. The machine screw used to secure the doorbell in the mounting bracket is a M2x7mm. The two screws that hold the wires are M3x7mm. You’ll be able to find those screws at your local hardware store.

Why am I not getting a notification when someone presses the doorbell?

  • Ensure that Event Recording is enabled in Device Settings.
  • The doorbell has a 30-second delay between button presses, so it should only be pressed once every 30 seconds.
  • Confirm the doorbell is connected to Wi-Fi in Device Settings.
  • Press the doorbell button a few times to ensure it’s not stuck. You should hear a tone when the button is pressed.
  • If the issue persists, perform a factory reset by holding the reset button until the LED turns solid red. The LED will return to blinking blue.

Why doesn’t my wired doorbell ring the chime box?

  • Confirm that the chime box is connected to power and that the breaker is on.
  • Turn off power to the doorbell, remove it from the mounting bracket, and check the wire connections. Ensure the wires are tightly secured and that no plastic insulation is caught under the screws.
  • Charge the battery. When connected to house wiring, the battery can still be depleted due to excessive motion events being captured, camera/doorbell usage, or overheating. The doorbell will receive a “trickle” charge from the house wiring, meaning that a small amount of charge will occur daily.
  • Incorrect chime type selected (selected mechanical in myQ app when chime is digital). To update this setting
    • Tap on Menu in the myQ app
    • Tap on Device Management
    • Select the doorbell that is not playing the chime
    • Tap on Chime Settings
    • Select the correct chime type

What should I do if I get an “Oops that didn’t work, try again” error when enabling Person, Vehicle, or Animal Detection?

Force close the myQ app, reopen it, and return to your camera settings to try again.

What do the different lights on the doorbell mean?

The LED lights indicate status, such as setup mode, live view, and errors.

What should I do before setting up the doorbell?

Make sure the myQ app is updated so the Video Doorbell appears in the device list during setup.

What happens if I select the wrong camera type during setup?

If the incorrect device is selected, the doorbell won’t be discovered. Restart the setup process and choose Video Doorbell.

What happens after the free trial if I already have a subscription?

  • If you're on a multi-device plan, the camera will be added automatically.
  • If you have a single-device plan, you’ll be prompted to add the new camera to a separate single- or multi-device plan after the trial ends.
  • Once the free trial ends and a subscription is not purchased, you will only be able to live stream from the camera and receive motion notifications

Will I get motion notifications if they’re enabled in the myQ app but not in my phone’s notification settings?

No. You must enable notifications in both the myQ app and your device’s system settings to receive alerts.

What subscription plans are available for myQ Video Storage?

  • 30-day multi-device plan

  • 7-day single-device plan

  • Basic plan (available only for one Secure View Garage Door Opener)

What does the LED look like during live streaming?

  • The LED is solid green during live view.

What can prevent the doorbell from being discovered during setup?

  • Bluetooth is not enabled, or the prompt was denied.
  • An incorrect device type was selected during setup.
  • The doorbell is already linked to another myQ account.
  • The doorbell is not in setup mode (blinking blue LED).
  • Navigated away from myQ app or minimized app during setup

Should I be indoors when setting up the doorbell?

Yes. Being close to your router ensures a strong Wi-Fi connection during setup.

Which Wi-Fi band does the Video Doorbell use?

The Video Doorbell connects only to the 2.4 GHz band. It won’t detect 5 GHz networks due to limited range.

What features are available without a subscription?

  • You can access live streaming and motion notifications without a subscription.
  • Video history and event recordings require a paid plan.

Should I test the camera angle before drilling mounting holes?

Yes. Place the camera at the intended mounting location and check the live stream to ensure it captures the desired area.

What should I do if the device doesn’t appear or won’t enter setup mode?

Perform a factory reset:

  1. Locate the reset button on the back of the doorbell, hold the reset button until the LED turns solid blue, then release.
  2. When the LED starts blinking blue, restart the setup.

What temperatures can the doorbell operate at?

The doorbell is designed to operate in temperatures between -4°F and 122°F (-20°C to 50°C).

Will cold weather affect the battery?

Yes. When temperatures drop to around freezing, the battery life may be shorter. Once the weather warms up and the battery is recharged, performance will return to normal.

Can I install the doorbell in direct sunlight?

We recommend installing the doorbell in a shaded area, away from direct sunlight. Excessive heat can cause the doorbell to overheat and reduce battery life.

I have an Eero network and can’t get the doorbell to connect. What should I do?

The doorbell uses the 2.4 GHz band for setup, but Eero networks combine 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, which can cause issues.

To temporarily disable 5 GHz during setup:

  1. Open the Eero app and log in.
  2. Tap Settings at the bottom of the home screen.
  3. Tap Troubleshooting towards the bottom of the settings screen.
  4. Tap My device won’t connect.
  5. Tap Temporarily pause 5 GHz.
The 5 GHz band will automatically re-enable after 10 minutes. If needed, you can re-enable it sooner by tapping Cancel at the bottom of the screen.

Will my doorbell work with other wireless chimes?

No. The myQ Video Doorbell is not compatible with other brands’ wireless chimes.

A compatible myQ wireless chime will be available later this year.

What is the estimated battery life?

With typical use, the battery lasts approximately 4 to 6 months. Actual performance may vary based on factors such as usage patterns, motion detection frequency, Wi-Fi signal strength, and environmental conditions like extreme temperatures. To help extend battery life, consider setting up detection zones, lowering motion sensitivity, and ensuring a strong Wi-Fi connection.

How does color night vision work?

The doorbell camera automatically shows full-color video when lighting is above 0.5 lux (similar to dawn or dusk). When it gets darker, it switches to black and white night vision for better visibility.
