myQ App Displays Low Battery for myQ Smart Control or Hub

Your myQ App will alert you when the battery in your myQ Garage, Smart Garage Hub or Chamberlain/LiftMaster Smart Garage Control's door sensor is low and needs to be replaced. Follow the steps below to replace the battery and clear the warning.

Why Am I Seeing a Low Battery Warning?

If your myQ App shows a low battery message, this means the battery in your door sensor needs to be replaced.

  • After replacing the battery, it may take up to 6 garage door cycles (openings and closings) for the alert to disappear.
  • Cold weather can impact battery life and voltage, so we recommend checking and replacing the battery at the start of colder months.

  1. Locate the sensor – The door sensor is usually mounted on the top panel inside your garage door.
  2. Open the door sensor – Press the release tab at the bottom or gently pry it open.
  3. Remove the old battery – Slide it out carefully. Do not use sharp objects to push it out, as this may damage the sensor.
  4. Insert a new battery – Use a 3V lithium CR2450 coin cell battery (+ side facing up)
  5. Close the sensor cover – Snap it securely back into place.
  6. Test the sensor – Press the button on the sensor. The LED light should flash, and the hub should beep.
  7. Clear the warning – Open and close your garage door up to 6 times to allow the app to update.
Tip: If the low battery warning remains after multiple cycles, try closing completely out of the myQ App and then reopening to refresh the connection. Try unplugging the hub for 30 seconds and then pluggin it back in.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Low Battery Warning Does Not Clear

  • Ensure the battery is inserted correctly (+ side facing up).
  • Power cycle the myQ Hub (unplug for 30 seconds, then plug back in).
  • Open and close your garage door up to 6 times to allow the app to update.
  • Open your garage door using the wall control.
  • Make sure you have the latest version of the myQ App.

Door Sensor Location

  • The myQ hub is the main device that plugs into a power outlet and connects to your Wi-Fi. It does not have a battery.
  • The door sensor is a separate battery-powered device mounted on the top panel inside your garage door. It detects when the door opens or closes and sends that information to the hub.
  • Be careful not to confuse the door sensor with the safety sensors, which are located at the bottom of the garage door and do not have a battery.
