The garage door opener lights turn off when the garage door opens

If the garage door lights go off when the garage door opens you may need to adjust your travel and force settings. There may also be an obstruction preventing the door from reaching its fully open position.

WARNING
To prevent possible SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:
  • Disconnect ALL electric and battery power (if your opener has the EverCharge standby power) BEFORE performing ANY service or maintenance

Perform the following steps:

  1. Close the garage door.
    • If you have a chain or belt drive system, pull the red release rope down and towards the opener.
    • If you have a screw drive system, pull the red release rope straight down.
  2. Operate the system without the door attached.
  3. If the opener light continues to turn off when the inner trolley or rack reaches the open position, reset the system by unplugging the unit for 30 seconds.
  4. Restore power, then activate the opener by sending the inner trolley or rack to the close position, then back to the open position.
  5. If the opener light continues to turn off, remove the door control wires from the opener by disconnecting the wires on the red and white terminals and repeat close and open.
  6. If the opener light still turns off, reset the travel and force adjustments.
  7. If the opener light remains on after removing the door control wires, replace the door control and wiring.

If the opener light remains on when the inner trolley or rack reaches the open position, you will need to reset the travel and force adjustments. You may also want to check for an obstruction which could be causing your door to stop prior to being opened completely.

You may check this by manually moving your door open and closed.

To re-engage the door:

  1. On chain or belt drive systems, pull the red handle towards the door and run the opener.
  2. On screw drive systems, pull the red handle towards the system and run the opener.
