My Wireless Motion Alert only works intermittently

The Wireless Alert's motion sensor can sense motion within 30 feet, and communicate with an indoor base station located up to 900 feet away. You have the option of setting the detection range to 15 feet, and setting the detection sensitivity to LOW or HIGH. The LOW sensitivity would be used to avoid unwanted detection of small animals. Intermittent detection of motion is most commonly caused by improper switch settings or positioning of the motion sensor.

  • Check the sensitivity and detection range of the motion sensor. Open the motion sensor by removing the four small screws and examine the switches inside.
    • If switch #1 is flipped away from the circuit board the detection range is set to 15 feet. Try setting the Sensor to a 30 foot detection range by flipping the switch towards the circuit board.
    • If switch #2 is flipped away from the circuit board the sensitivity is set to LOW. Try setting the sensor to HIGH sensitivity by flipping the switch towards the circuit board.
  • If using the PIR motion sensor to detect cars, it is best to mount the sensor at the height of the car's motor and have it between 10 and 20 feet from the road.
  • Mount the motion sensor horizontally on a solid surface. Keep the sensor away from metal objects. Do not mount the motion sensor in direct sunlight, near moving tree branches, or in the path of a sprinkler system.
