My chain/belt drive garage door opener runs in the wrong direction

Your garage door opener will run in the wrong direction in the following three scenarios:

  • The trolley is installed backwards.
  • Your garage door opener is installed on a rail and trolley system manufactured by another company.
  • For DC openers, the wire harness connecting the logic board to the motor could be backwards.

If your garage door opener is installed on a rail system manufactured by another company, please install the railing that came with your garage door opener.

To determine if the trolley is installed backwards

  1. Stand underneath the motor facing towards the garage door.
  2. Look up at the trolley. You should see the threaded bolt that connects the chain or belt on the left side of the trolley.

If the threaded bolt is on the wrong side of the trolley, refer to the Owner's Manual for steps on assembling the rail and trolley.

If the opener has a DC motor which was recently replaced, double check the motor wire harness. The notches on each side of the harness should be pointing away from the board for it to be installed properly.
