How to Program a Keypad PIN for Your Garage Door

There are two ways to set a 4-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) for your garage door: using the wall control with a LEARN button or using the garage door opener with a LEARN button.

Using the Wall Control to Program Your PIN

  1. Clear the garage door area of any obstructions.
  2. Locate the LEARN button on the door control.
  3. Press the LEARN button twice. The Command LED will flash.
  4. Enter a 4-digit PIN of your choice on the keypad, and press ENTER.
  5. The garage door opener lights will blink, meaning the PIN is set.

Once your PIN is set, you can change the PIN or set a temporary PIN if needed.

Using the Garage Door Opener to Program Your PIN

  1. Clear the garage door area of any obstructions. You will need a ladder to reach the garage door opener and complete the following steps.
  2. Locate the LEARN button on the garage door opener. See How to find the Learn button on my garage door opener.
  3. Press and release the LEARN button. The LED light will turn on, giving you 30 seconds to finish the next step. You may need a second person to help with the next step.
  4. Enter a 4-digit PIN of your choice on the keypad, then press and hold the ENTER button until the garage door opener light blinks. This means the PIN is set.

Once your PIN is set, you can change the PIN or set a temporary PIN.

How to Change an Existing Garage Door PIN

  1. Clear the garage door area of any obstructions.
  2. Enter the current PIN that you want to change.
  3. Press and hold the # button until the garage door opener light blinks twice.
  4. Enter the new 4-digit PIN of your choice, then press the ENTER button. The opener lights will blink once. The PIN is now changed.

How to Add a Temporary Garage Door PIN

You will be able to set how long you'd like the Temporary Garage Door PIN to work for.

  1. Enter any current PIN, then press and hold the * button until the garage door opener light blinks three times.
  2. Enter a temporary 4-digit PIN, different than any of your current pins, then press the ENTER button. The garage door opener lights will blink four times
  3. Choose how long the temporary pin will work:
    • For hours: Press the number of hours (up to 255) and then press *
    • For the number of times: Press the number of times (up to 255) and then press #.

Additional Troubleshooting

  •  If you moved into a new home and want to erase the previous owner's settings, perform a Factory Reset on your garage door opener. This will remove all remote controls, keyless entry devices, and myQ devices from the system. You will need to reprogram them afterward.
