How To Adjust The Force on Garage Door Opener Models 2500, 2500B, 2500C, 2500D, and WD952KCS

Force adjustment settings regulate the amount of power required to open and close it. This is for models with black and orange buttons.

If a garage door forces are set too lightly, door travel may be interrupted by reversals in the down direction and stops in the up direction. And because the weather can affect the door movement, occasional adjustments may also be needed. Here’s what you need to know.

WARNING
Without a properly installed safety reversal system, persons (particularly small children) could be SERIOUSLY INJURED or KILLED by a closing garage door.
  • Too much force on the garage door will interfere with proper operation of the safety reversal system.
  • Incorrect adjustment of garage door travel limits will interfere with proper operation of safety reversal system.
  • NEVER use force adjustments to compensate for a binding or sticking garage door.
  • After ANY adjustments are made, the safety reversal system MUST be tested. Door MUST reverse on contact with 1-1/2" (3.8 cm) high object (or 2x4 laid flat) on floor.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to vehicles, be sure the fully open door provides adequate clearance.

Adjust Garage Door Force

  1. Locate the orange button on the back panel of your garage door opener.
  2. Push the orange button twice to enter opener into Force Adjustment Mode. The LED (Indicator Light) will flash quickly.
  3. Push the remote control or door control. The door will travel to the DOWN (close) position.
  4. Push the remote control or door control again, the door will travel to the UP (open) position.
  5. Push the remote control or door control a third time to send the door to the DOWN (close) position. The LED (Indicator Light) will stop flashing when the force has been learned. The opener has learned the forces required to open and close your door.
  6. The door must travel through a complete cycle, UP and DOWN, in order for the force to be set properly.
  7. If the opener cannot open and close your door fully, inspect your door to insure that it is balanced properly and is not sticking or binding.
  8. After you do ANY adjustments, the safety reversal system MUST be tested.
