How To Program The Travel Limits On Garage Door Opener Models 2500, 2500B, 2500C, 2500D, And WD952KCS

Travel limits regulate the points at which a garage door stops when moving up or down. This is for models with black and orange buttons.

The buttons used to program the travel are located on the back of the garage door opener and are black and orange.

Learn how to set the:

  • UP position
  • DOWN position
WARNING
To prevent possible SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:
  • Too much force on the garage door will interfere with proper operation of the safety reversal system.
  • NEVER use force adjustments to compensate for a binding or sticking garage door.
  • After ANY adjustments are made, the safety reversal system MUST be tested. Door MUST reverse on contact with 1-1/2" (3.8 cm) high object (or 2x4 laid flat) on floor.
CAUTION
To prevent DAMAGE to vehicles:
  • Be sure the fully opened garage door provides adequate clearance.

Setting the UP Position on Garage Door Travel Limits

  1. Locate the black and orange buttons on the back of your garage door opener.
  2. Press and hold the black button until the yellow LED starts flashing slowly, then release.
  3. Push and hold the black button until the door reaches the desired UP (open) position.
  4. Adjust the position of the door by using the black and orange buttons. Black moves the door UP (open) and orange moves the door DOWN (close).
    • NOTE: Check to be sure the door opens high enough for your vehicle.
  5. Push the remote control or door control. This sets the UP (open) limit and begins closing the door.
  6. As soon as the door begins to move down, press and release either the black or orange button. This will stop the door.

Setting the DOWN Position on Garage Door Travel Limits

  1. Push and hold the orange button until the door reaches the desired DOWN (close) position.
  2. Once the door is closed, if there appears to have too much pressure on the door, you may toggle the door back and forth using the black and orange buttons to reach the desired closed position.
  3. Push the remote control or the door control. This sets the DOWN (close) limit and should bring the door to the open position.
  4. Open and close the door with the remote control or door control two or three times. If the door does NOT stop in the desired UP (open) position or reverses before the door stops at the DOWN (close) position, proceed to How To Adjust The Force on Garage Door Opener Models 2500, 2500B, 2500C, 2500D, and WD952KCS
  5. If the door stops in both the desired UP (open) and DOWN (close) positions, be sure to test the safety reversal system.
