How to Get the Trolley off the Stop Bolt or Stop Tab

The trolley can become lodged against the stop bolt/tab when the door has either opened or closed too far. The garage door opener motor will hum when attempting to open or close the door but will be unable to travel due to being lodged against the bolt/tab. Typically this is caused by a mis-adjustment.

Stop Bolt

To remove the trolley from the stop bolt, follow the steps below:

  1. First visually verify that the trolley is against the stop bolt.
  2. Make sure the garage doorway is clear of persons or obstructions.
  3. Release the door from the garage door opener by pulling the Emergency Release Handle.
  4. Manually bring the door to the closed position.
  5. Loosen the chain or belt by adjusting the outer nut 4 to 5 turns. This relieves the tension.
  6. Run the motor unit from the remote control or door control. The trolley should travel towards the door and stop. If the trolley re-engages with the door, pull the Emergency Release Handle to disengage.
  7. Decrease the UP travel. Depending on the type of garage door opener you have, there are two methods for adjusting the travel:
    • Turn the UP travel adjustment screw 2 full turns away from the arrow

    OR

    • Use the buttons to reprogram the UP travel (See your users manual for complete programming steps)

  8. Re-tighten the outer nut so the chain or belt is 1/2 inch (T-Rail) or 1/4 inch (Square Rail) above the base of the rail. (When the door is reconnected and closed, the chain will sag. This is normal.)
  9. If the trolley does not move away from the bolt, repeat the steps above.

In rare instances this issue may occur due to a part failure such as the logic board.

Stop Tab

To remove the trolley from the stop tab, follow the steps below:

  1. First visually verify that the trolley is against the stop tab.
  2. Make sure the garage doorway is clear of persons or obstructions.
  3. Release the door from the garage door opener by pulling the Emergency Release Handle.
  4. Loosen the chain or belt by adjusting the outer nut 4 to 5 turns. This relieves the tension.
  5. Run the motor unit from the remote control or door control. The trolley should travel towards the door and stop. If the trolley re-engages with the door, pull the Emergency Release Handle to disengage.
  6. Decrease the DOWN travel. Depending on the type of garage door opener you have, there are two methods for adjusting the travel:
    • Turn the DOWN travel adjustment screw 2 full turns away from the arrow

    OR

    • Use the buttons to reprogram the UP travel (See your users manual for complete programming steps)

  7. Re-tighten the outer nut so the chain or belt is 1/2 inch (T-Rail) or 1/4 inch (Square Rail) above the base of the rail. (When the door is reconnected and closed, the chain will sag. This is normal.)
  8. If the trolley does not move away from the bolt, repeat the steps above.

In rare instances this issue may occur due to a part failure such as the logic board.

After ANY adjustments are made, the safety reversal system MUST be tested. The door MUST reverse on contact with 1-1/2" high (3.8 cm) object (or 2X4 laid flat) on the floor.

As of November 15, 2020, Security+ 2.0 Garage Door Openers are now manufactured with obstruction notifications in the event the garage door encounters an obstruction while operating.

For existing Security+ 2.0 Wi-Fi Garage Door Openers that are connected to Wi-Fi, the firmware has been updated automatically so it will now provide obstruction notifications. Note: The garage door opener must be connected to Wi-Fi in order for the update to occur.

If the opener is not a Wi-Fi enabled Garage Door Opener and is within the warranty time frame, the logic board can be replaced. Replacing the logic board will provide obstruction notifications once it is installed.
