Remote Control or Keyless Entry Will Not Program to Model 8500

The model 8500 is compatible with new Security+ 2.0 remote controls. The model 8500 comes with either the 888LM or 889LM myQ Control Panel. There are two causes that may be the problem with programming to a model 8500.

• Remote compatibility
• The location of the learn button

Remote compatibility

The compatible accessories are the 895MAX, 893MAX, 893MAXMC, 890MAX, 890MAXMC, 891LM, 893LM, 877MAX, 877MAXMC, 878MAXMC and 877LM.

The location of the learn button

Compared with other models, the learn button is not on the opener itself, it is on the myQ Control Panel. The learn button on the opener is used only for setting the travel limits and force.

Programming remotes and keyless entry

To program the 891LM/891LMMC or 893LM/893LMMC remote control, locate the learn button on the control panel by flipping up the push bar.

1. Press and release the learn button twice. The red LED will turn on.
2. Press the button on the remote control that you want to operate the door.
3. The remote light will flash when programmed, release the remote control button.

To program the 893MAX/893MAXMC remote control, locate the learn button on the control panel by flipping up the push bar.

1. Take the visor clip off and use the clip to press the program button on the back of the remote until the LED light on the front of the remote turns on.
2. Press and release the learn button twice. The red LED will turn on.
3. Press and release the remote button you wish to program, one time.
4. Exit the programming by pressing one of the other 2 buttons on the remote.
5. To test, press the programmed button.

To program the 895MAX/895MAXMC or 890MAX/890MAXMC remote control, locate the learn button on the control panel by flipping up the push bar.

1. Using a safety pin or paper clip, press the program button on the side of the remote, until the LED light on the front turns on.
2. Press and release the learn button twice. The red LED will turn on.
3. Press and release the remote button you wish to program, one time.
4. Exit the programming by pressing one of the other 2 buttons on the remote.
5. To test, press the programmed button.

To program the 877LM/877LMMC keyless entry, locate the learn button on the control panel by flipping up the push bar.

1. Press the learn button twice. The red LED will turn on.
2. Enter a 4 digit PIN of your choice and then press enter.
3. The remote light will flash when programmed, release the enter button.

To program the 877MAX/877MAXMC keyless entry, locate the learn button on the control panel by flipping up the push bar.

1. Press the * and the # keys until the keypad stops flashing.
2. Press and release the learn button under push bar twice.
3. Enter a 4 digit PIN number.
4. Press and release the enter button.
5. Press the 0 key to complete the programming.
6. To test, press the PIN number and the Enter key.
