Learn how EV/MAX remote controls and keyless entry systems work with your Chamberlain or LiftMaster garage door openers. This FAQ covers programming, compatibility, PIN codes, and more.

EV/MAX Remote Control FAQs

Are EV/MAX remotes compatible with my garage door opener?

Yes. EV or MAX remotes work with Chamberlain and LiftMaster openers made after 1993.

Can I program the EV/MAX remote to multiple frequencies?

Yes, each button on the remote can be programmed to different frequencies, this lets you program to compatible garage door openers, gate operators or receivers.

Do I need to clear the remote before programming to a second garage door opener of the same frequency?

No, but you must program a different button for each garage door opener, gate operator, or receiver. Otherwise, one button will open both.

When programming, if I press a remote-control button to exit Program Mode, will the door activate?

No, the remote will not activate any door while in program mode. You can also avoid confusion by pressing the Program Button on the remote to exit Program Mode.

Will the EV/MAX remote lose programming if I remove the battery?

No. It keeps its programming even without the battery.

Can I program the EV/MAX remote to control my garage light?

Yes, as long as the remote has been programmed to the same frequency of the garage door opener.

Tip:

  1. Program the button to the opener
  2. Erase the motor's memory
  3. Reprogram one button to the door
  4. Program the second button to control the light

Can EV/MAX remotes open, close, and stop the door?

No. They don’t support stop commands.

Will the EV/MAX accessories improve range when using them on Billion Code and Sec+ garage door openers, gate operators or receivers?

No, while the EV/MAX accessories let you program to multiple frequency devices, only the Sec+2.0 option will provide improved range when programmed to a Sec+2.0 garage door openers, gate operators or receivers. If you are in need of improved range, replace the current operator with a unit which uses Sec+2.0 or a myQ Door Control panel if your Chamberlain operator was manufactured after 1998.

If I switch a garage door opener board from Sec+ to Billion Code, erase the memory, and then reprogram the EV/MAX remote to the logic board, what code will the remote be set to?

The system is open and waiting to receive a signal, the first one heard will be programmed. The remote programs 390 MHz Sec+ before 390 MHz billion code.

Do EV/MAX remotes work with Passport Receivers?

Yes.

Can I use a QR code to program my remote?

Yes. With the Security 3.0 remotes (Standard Remotes – CH161, L991S, CH163, L993S, CMX161. Max Remotes – CH361, CH363, L993M, CH382, L932M, CMX363) you are able to scan the QR code on the back of the remote to start the programming process.
