We know life (and Wi-Fi!) can sometimes be unpredictable, which is why the Video Keypad has a Back-Up Mode built in to help prevent lockouts. This mode keeps PIN codes functioning in a few scenarios:
Device Offline
Your Video Keypad will use Back-Up Mode when your device has sufficient battery, but your Wi-Fi network is down. In this scenario, online and camera functions are disabled (including Motion Detection, Recording and Notifications, Live View, and Call Features), but you can still open your Garage using the 4–8-digit PIN you previously created.
Poor Signal
Sometimes a weaker Wi-Fi signal will cause a periodic loss of connection, but similarly to an Offline event, Back-Up Mode will keep PINs functioning. To learn more about the strength of your Wi-Fi connection, in the myQ app, click the Wi-Fi icon (located in the live stream viewer) to follow tips to improve your connection.
Low Power Mode
This mode occurs when the battery is at 5% or less. In-app “Low Battery” notifications will begin when your battery reaches 30% charge, but this mode is in place to help prevent a lockout before you have time to recharge. Keep in mind this mode will not last more than a few days so it is recommended you recharge and replace your battery as soon as possible so you don’t lose function.
Operating Temperature
The Video Keypad is designed to operate at temperatures as low as -20C/-4F, but in some cases the battery temperature can drop lower than the ambient temperature. If you are experiencing temperatures in this range, especially with extreme windchill factors, online functions will be disabled to help protect the battery. In this scenario your device will show offline, but Back-Up Mode should still be available to help prevent lockout in the cold.
