How to Test Wi‑Fi Signal Strength

A weak Wi‑Fi signal is one of the most common reasons a myQ device fails to connect, appears offline, or disconnects after setup.

Before changing router settings or troubleshooting your myQ device, test the Wi‑Fi signal where the device is installed.

What You Need

✅ A smartphone or tablet
✅ Connected to your home Wi‑Fi network
✅ Access to the location where the myQ device is installed

Test the Wi‑Fi Signal

Step 1: Connect to Your Home Wi‑Fi Network

Connect your phone or tablet to the same Wi‑Fi network your myQ device will use.

Step 2: Go to the Device Location

Stand next to the myQ device or where it will be installed.

Step 3: Check the Wi‑Fi Signal on Your Phone

Look at the Wi‑Fi signal indicator on your phone.

Strong Signal

  • Three or more Wi-Fi bars
  • Stable connection
  • No frequent disconnects

Weak Signal

  • One or two Wi-Fi bars
  • Signal drops or frequent disconnects
  • Slow network performance

Why Signal Strength Matters

A weak Wi‑Fi signal can cause:
  • Setup failures
  • Devices showing offline
  • Frequent disconnects
  • Delayed status updates in the myQ app
Even if Wi‑Fi works in other parts of your home, the signal may not be strong enough where the myQ device is installed.
