myQ App | How to Set Up Multi Factor Authorization (Two‑Step Verification)

Protect your myQ account by enabling Two-Step Verification, the myQ app's name for multifactor authentication (MFA). Two-Step Verification adds an extra layer of security by requiring a one-time verification code in addition to your password when signing in.

Two-Step Verification is required for myQ accounts. If you received an email asking you to complete setup, follow the steps below to verify your account and avoid future sign-in issues.

💡 Important: Two-Step Verification is usually required only when signing in, using a new device, or making certain account security changes. Most customers stay signed in and will not enter a verification code every time they use the myQ app.

  1. Open the myQ app.
  2. Tap Menu in the bottom-right corner.

Choose how you want to receive verification codes.

  1. Select Make this method primary for your preferred option (phone or email).
  2. The other method becomes your backup option.
  3. Tap Save.

Two-Step Verification for Multiple Users

Two-Step Verification is connected to an individual myQ account. If multiple people need access to the same garage door or gate, invite them as a Co-Owner or Household User instead of sharing login credentials. Each user signs in with their own myQ account and completes Two-Step Verification using their own phone number or email.

To learn more about adding users and the differences between Co-Owners and Household Users, see myQ Users | What It Is and How It Works

To invite users and manage shared access, see myQ Users | Invite, Accept, and Switch Between Accounts

When Two-Step Verification Is Required

You may be prompted to enter a verification code when:

  • You log out and sign back in
  • Signing in on a new device
  • Completing certain account or security changes
💡 Note: Once signed in, the app usually keeps you logged in, so you will not be asked to verify every time you open it.

When prompted:

  1. Enter your password.
  2. Enter the verification code sent to your primary method.

Troubleshooting Two-Step Verification

Can I Turn Off Two-Step Verification?

No. Two-Step Verification is a required safety measure for myQ accounts.

Didn't Receive a Code

  • Wait a few minutes and check again.
  • Select Send new code in the app.
  • Check spam or junk email folders.
  • Confirm text messages are not blocked.

Lost Access to Phone

  • Use your email backup method to sign in.
  • After signing in, update your phone number in Manage Account.

Lost Access to Email

  • Use your phone number to sign in.
  • Update your email after sign-in under Manage Account.

Email Won't Update or Is Locked

  • Your account may use Google, Apple, or Amazon sign-in.
  • Update email through that provider if needed.

Codes Keep Expiring

  • Codes expire after 10 minutes.
  • Request a new code if needed.

What If Multiple People Use the Same Login?

Verification codes are sent only to the phone number or email address associated with that myQ account. If multiple people need access, each person must have their own myQ account and be invited as a user instead of sharing login credentials.
Learn more about shared access in myQ Users | What It Is and How It Works. For instructions on inviting users, see myQ Users | Invite, Accept, and Switch Between Accounts.

When to Set This Up

⚠️ Warning: Two-Step Verification is now in effect, starting September 2026. myQ accounts are required to adopt this security measure. Set it up as soon as possible to avoid sign-in issues.
