Why the Residential Jackshaft Opener (RJO) won't work on a full vertical lift door

Residential Jackshaft Opener (RJO) machines will not work on a full vertical lift door. These operators do not have a holding brake or mechanism that would be needed in order to assist in holding the added weight of the door.

Additionally, the drum used for vertical lift doors is a highly tapered drum. The taper can go as extreme as starting at a 3" diameter all the way to a 12" diameter. At about 10", the cable would be too far away from the wall where the cable tension monitor and would not work properly (the arm would not reach the cable).

On tapered drums, the door will change speed almost instantly between the small part of the drum radius and the larger portion. We do not have speed control on the 3800 and the change in door speed could cause the door to move quicker than required.
