Security+ 3.0 Keypads | Program to LiftMaster Gate Operators and Commercial Receivers

Compatible Operators and Receivers

These instructions apply to the following LiftMaster operators and external receivers:

Before You Begin

• Ensure the area around the gate or door is clear. The gate or door will move during programming and verification.
• Read all instructions carefully before starting.
• Keypads are pre-set to Security+ 3.0 out of the box. Because the operators and receivers listed above use Security+ and Security + 2.0, you must put the keypad into Programming Mode to pair it.
• Programming allows the keypad to provide single-button control with a 4-digit PIN.

Step 1: Put the Keypad in Programming Mode

1. Press and hold the 0 and 3 buttons simultaneously.
2. Continue holding until the LEDs remain solid, typically about 6 seconds, then release the buttons.
   • LED indicators by keypad type:
     • MAX Keypad (L979M, CH348): LEDs will be solid red.
     • UNIVERSAL Keypad (L979U, CHU48): LEDs will be solid blue.

Step 2: Program the Keypad to the Operator

1. Locate the LEARN button on the operator or receiver. 

2. Press and release the LEARN button to place the operator/receiver into Programming Mode.
   • The small LED next to the LEARN button on the operator will light up. 
3. Within 20 seconds, on the keypad:
   • Enter a 4-digit personal identification number (PIN).
   • Press the Home button:
     • MAX Keypad (L979M, CH348): Press twice
     • Universal Keypad (L979U, CHU48): Press three times
4. While transmitting, the LEARN LED on the operator/receiver will flash once and then turn off, confirming the keypad has been recognized.
5. The keypad LEDs will continue flashing until pairing is complete.
6. When the gate or door begins to move, immediately press and release the Home button.

Step 3: Verify Programming

• Ensure the operator/receiver is no longer in Programming Mode (the LEARN LED will be OFF).
• Enter your programmed PIN and press the Home button.
• If successful, the gate or door will move.
• If unsuccessful, repeat programming steps.
