How to Wire the Door Control for a Garage Door Opener

Determine if you have a Security + 2.0 opener and if you have the plug-in terminals or the screw terminals on your unit. Use a 2 conductor 22 gauge bell wire for this task.

For Security + 2.0 models

  1. Separate the two conductors and strip a 7/16 inch of insulation from each conductor on one end of the wire.
  2. Connect one wire to each of the two screws on the back of the door control and tighten the screws. The wire can be connected to either screw.
  3. On the other end of the wire strand, separate the wires and strip another 7/16 inch of insulation from each end
  4. Connect one wire into the red terminal and the other wire into the white terminal next to the red on the motor unit

Security + models

Determine if you have the plug-in terminals or the screw terminals on your unit. Use a 2 conductor 22 gauge bell wire for this task.

  • If you have plug in terminals and are using the white solid and white/red wires that came with the unit
    1. Connect white/red wire to the red plug terminal
    2. Connect white solid wire to white plug terminal (next to red terminal)
  • If you have screw terminals and are using the white solid and white/red wires that came with the unit
    1. Connect the white/red wire to terminal labeled 1 or R (red) and tighten screw snuggly.
    2. Connect the white wire to terminal labeled 2 or W (white) and tighten screw snuggly.

Note: Do not over tighten the screws on the door control because the door control can start to malfunction and can cause phantom operation
