How to wire a three screw terminal garage door opener

The back of the motor has 3 screw terminals numbered 1, 2, & 3. This is where the door control and safety sensors are wired.

To wire the door control

  1. Attach the striped red/white wire under screw terminal 1.
  2. Attach the solid white wire under screw terminal 2.

Press the door control, the opener should respond.

To wire the safety sensors

Each safety sensor has two wires, one wire is white, one wire is white with a black stripe.

Twist the two white wires and the two black striped wires together.

  1. Attach the two white wires under screw terminal 2.
  2. Attach the two black striped wires under screw terminal 3.

Aim the sensors at each other. The green indicator lights should be lit and the lights should be solid, not blinking. When the sensors light up, press the remote to close the door. The door should close.

The safety reversing sensors protect people, pets, and automobiles by projecting an invisible beam across the path of the garage door. If the beam is interrupted while the door is closing, the door will stop and reverse to the full open position. The garage door will not close until the obstruction is removed. The sensors must be installed so that the sending and receiving sensors face each other across the door.
