A multi-function door control is necessary for setting light controls. A multi-function door control has a Light, Lock and a push button to open and close the garage door. If you do not have a multi-function door control you will not be able to permanently change these light options. Refer to your manual to verify if your opener has these options.
NOTE: If you do not have a multi-function door control and wish to have the lights stop turning on while you are doing yard work or cleaning the garage, you can open your door and before it is fully open, press the door control to stop the door from opening completely. This will temporarily disable this feature until the system operates again. Please close and open your door again before entering or exiting the garage with your vehicle to eliminate any damage.
Press the Light button to turn the opener light on or off. It will not control the opener lights when the door is in motion. If you turn it on and then activate the opener, the light will remain on for 4-1/2 minutes. Press again to turn it off sooner. The 4-1/2 minute interval can be changed to 1-1/2, 2-1/2, or 3-1/2 minutes as follows:
The Lock button is also used to lock out the hand held remote controls. Once you have finished setting the light timer, ensure the light inside the door control is glowing steadily. If the light is flashing, the "Lock" feature has been engaged.
The opener light will turn on automatically when a person enters the garage. When a person walks in front of the door control, the light will turn on for a set amount of time between 1-1/2 to 4-1/2 minutes, then shut off. This feature works by detecting body heat using Passive Infrared motion sensing (PIR).
To disable this feature, push the motion sensing button or flip the switch on the side of the door control. It is recommended that the motion sensor be disabled when using the opener lights as work lights. Otherwise they will turn off automatically if you are working beyond the sensor's range.
In addition to operating the door, you may program the remote to operate the lights.
