How to Add a Genie Intellicode 2 to a myQ Device

You can connect a Genie with Intellicode 2 technology to a myQ device, such as the myQ Garage, myQ Smart Garage Hub, or Smart Garage Control. If you are using Intellicode 2, additional steps with the Genie Intellicode 2 remote may be required.

Prepare Your Garage Door Setup

  • Mount the door sensor to the inside top panel of your garage door on either side for accurate monitoring.

Steps to Add Genie Intellicode 2

  1. Open the myQ app.
  2. Access Account Menu:
    • If your app shows Menu in the bottom right corner, tap Menu.
    • If your app shows your Initials in the top left corner, tap your Initials
  3. Tap Device Management.
  4. Tap the Plus (+) Sign or Add a new device
  5.  Tap Smart Garage Hub to add the myQ garage, myQ Smart Hub, or Smart Garage Control to your myQ account.
    1. Follow in-app steps to complete setup.
  6. Pair the door sensor with your hub:
    • If you have already added the hub and you are on the home screen, follow the steps to Add a new device.
    • Tap Door Sensor then select hub to continue.

  1. On the door sensor, firmly pull out the tab so the battery connects if you haven't done so.
  2. Test your door sensor by pressing and releasing the button on the front of the sensor.
    • You will see a red LED illuminate as you press.
  3. Tap Next.
  4. When prompted, press and release the button on the door sensor to complete pairing.
    • The hub should beep indicating the door sensor is paired to the hub.
    • If the hub does not beep, see How to Test the Door Sensor for troubleshooting the door sensor.
  5. Mount the sensor:
    • Once the door sensor is paired, you will receive confirmation in the app and the screens that follow will guide you through mounting the door sensor to your garage door.
    • Once mounted, the next steps will have you pair the Hub to your garage door motor.
  6. Pair the hub to the garage door motor:
    1. Read the warning and tap Next.
    2. Use a ladder to access your garage door motor and make sure your garage door's path is clear.
  7. Tap Next.
  8. Tap Genie for the brand of your garage motor.
  9. Tap Found It and follow these steps to put the Genie in program mode.

    1. Press and hold the PROGRAM button (square button) on the Genie IC2 powerhead until both blue LEDs turn on.
    2. Release the PROGRAM button. Only the round blue led should now be on.
      • Note: If the long LED goes flashing purple instead, the opener is in program mode - go to step 13.
    3. Press and release the PROGRAM button. The long purple led should now be flashing.
    4. Press and release the button on the Genie's transmitter, now both LED lights will be flashing purple. You have less than 20 seconds to complete the steps on your myQ app.
      • If you are unsure on how to put your Genie into program mode, please refer to the garage door opener's owner's manual and reference the remote programming section to verify.
      • Note: The LED in the Genie remote will flash green to indicate it is transmitting a frequency as Intellicode 2 technology.
  1. Tap I HAVE PRESSED THE PROGRAM BUTTON to proceed with the programming.
    • Several attempts will be made to add your Genie to your myQ account. Your door may move during this time.
  2. Once the Genie is added, tap on Continue to proceed using your myQ account.

If you are unable to pair your Genie to your myQ account, see Unable to Pair Garage Door Opener to myQ Device for further assistance.

After adding your garage door opener to your account, you will be able to create alerts for your door. For more information see How to Create or Delete a Notification for a myQ Account.
