KLIK1U and KLIK2U - How to do alternate programming method for Genie or Overhead Door openers

Below are alternate methods for programming the KLIK1U and KLIK2U to a Genie (or Overhead Door) garage door opener, Intellicode 1 models only. To determine if the opener is Intellicode 1 or Intellicode 2, check the color of the learn indicator light on the opener.

If the learn indicator light is blue, follow the programming instructions in the following links:

If the learn indicator light is red, follow the instructions below.

To program a KLIK1U to Intellicode 1

  1. Slide down the front battery cover on remote.
  2. Press and hold the remote program button until the LED light on the remote comes on.
  3. Press and release the learn button on the Genie garage door opener.
  4. Select the button you want to program then press and release that button on the remote 5 times, making sure that the LED light stops flashing between each press.
  5. Watch the learn indicator light on the opener. It will either go solid or continue to flash after the 5th press of the remote button.
    • If the learn indicator light is still flashing press the chosen remote button one more time (6 total presses).
    • If the learn indicator light is solid proceed to step 6.
  6. Press the remote program button to turn off the LED light.
  7. Test remote by pressing the remote button two times. After the first press the Genie learn indicator light will go out, then on the second press of the button the door will move.

To program a KLIK2U to Intellicode 1

These steps will require a second person if the KLIK2U is mounted and the learn indicator light on the opener is not in view from the keypad location.

  1. Press and hold the # and * keys until the lights on the keyless entry are off. They will flash when you start pressing both buttons.
  2. Promptly enter in your PIN followed by the # key, then the number 5 or 6 followed by the # key again. If you do this sequence correctly, the lights should turn off after pressing the # key the second time.
  3. Press the program/learn button on the Genie and then press the PIN into the keypad, press 0 three times and the garage should open.
  4. To test, press the PIN followed by the 0 key, then verify that the Red indicator light on the Genie flashes. If the red LED on the Genie flashes this confirms we are on the correct radio frequency.
