How to install and/or replace a Garage Door Opener power door lock

When ordering a replacement Garage Door Opener power door lock, refer to your manual to ensure you are ordering the correct part number for your opener.

When replacing the Garage Door Opener power door lock, or relocating an existing lock, use the instructions outlined in this article to correctly mount the power door lock.

  1. Print the Door Lock Template.
  2. Use a tape measure or ruler to ensure the template is accurately scaled. Important, if you are unable to get a scaled template, draw the template onto the track using the steps below.
  3. Cut the template, and tape it to the track of the rail.
    Note: Be sure the center hole is centered above one of the door wheels. This will ensure maximum security by not allowing the door to be forced opened.
  4. Drill a 5/16" hole on the top and bottom hole.
  5. Drill a 3/4" hole near the center of the template.
  6. Use the screws provided in the kit to mount the power door lock.
  7. Manually test the lock to ensure the lock clears the 3/4" hole.
  8. Run the bell wire up the wall to the opener. use insulated staples to secure the wire in several places.
  9. Insert the wire through the bottom of the garage door opener.
  10. Plug the connector into the garage door opener. The plug is located above the red terminal.

If you are not able to print the template, use the following steps to draw the template onto the track

  1. Draw a horizontal line above 1/2" above one of the door rollers.
  2. Draw a vertical line in the center of the track. Make sure the line is long enough to reach 2 inches above and 2 inches below the horizontal line from step 1.
  3. Measure 1 and 1/2" inches above the horizontal line, and draw another horizontal line.
  4. Measure 1" inch below the line on step 1, and draw the last horizontal line.
  5. You should now have a template on your track to drill the holes. It should look similar to the following:

  1. Drill a 3/4" hole on the center line.
  2. Drill a 5/16" hole on the top and bottom lines.
  3. Use the screws provided in the kit to mount the power door lock.
  4. Manually test the lock to ensure the lock clears the 3/4" hole.
  5. Run the bell wire up the wall to the opener. Use insulated staples to secure the wire in several places.
  6. Insert the wire through the bottom of the garage door opener.
  7. Plug the connector into the garage door opener. The plug is located above the red terminal.
