Why nylon gears are used inside the motor unit

The material used on the gears is a hightech nylon. For this application it is stronger than steel and will last longer.

• The motor units are installed in various locations around the US and climates range from extremely hot to below zero temperatures. As the temperature drops, metal contracts and as it gets hotter it expands. This creates friction, noise, wear and a very short life span.

• Nylon gears have the slight amount of give required to absorb the shock of starting and stopping.

• Adjusting the force settings higher usually means the garage door spring needs to be adjusted. If the door spring is not carrying the weight of the door, setting the force settings higher will only cause premature damage to the opener and the gears may need to be replaced. Metal gears would need to be replaced much sooner than the nylon gears.
