Wireless Motion Alert Is Delivering False Alerts

The Wireless Motion Alert's motion sensor is designed to detect the movement of people and vehicles, while allowing small animals to pass through undetected. The sensitivity and detection range of the motion sensor is adjusted by the two white switches located inside the motion sensor. If these switches are set incorrectly your motion sensor may falsely alert.

Resolve issues with receiving false Wireless Motion Alerts

  • Check the sensitivity and detection range of the Motion Sensor. Open the Motion Sensor by removing the four small screws and examine the switches inside:
    • If switch #1 is flipped towards the circuit board the detection range is set to 30 feet. Try setting the sensor to a 15 foot detection range by flipping the switch away from the circuit board.
    • If switch #2 is flipped towards the circuit board the sensitivity is set to high. Try setting the sensor to low sensitivity by flipping the switch away from the circuit board.
  • Check for moving tree branches in front of the motion sensor, or insects in the motion sensor window. The motion sensor can also be triggered by light shining directly in the sensor window, such as reflected sunlight, or motion in front of a light source.
  • Condensation may have built up inside the sensor. Open the sensor and wipe condensation from the circuit board using a cotton swab. Let the motion sensor sit indoors for a few hours, open to the air without the batteries. The problem should correct itself.
  • Clear and reprogram the motion sensors. See How to program my Wireless Motion Alert sensor.
