Reasons Why a Security+ 2.0 Garage Door Opener Lights Flash 5 Times

Programming of the Travel and Force Settings Have Timed Out

While programming the travel and force settings, you have up to 4 minutes to complete the programming steps. If the garage door opener was unable to complete the setup process, the opener will time out and will respond by blinking the light relay five (5) times.

  1. Verify the safety sensors are installed, the LED's are solid and not misaligned or blocked, while force is being set.

  2. Repeat the travel programming steps.

NOTE: Make sure you also test the Safety Reversal System after making any adjustments.

A Passpoint Was Not Read During Programming of the Travel Settings

If the travel module is not reading a passpoint during the setup process, the logic board does not know where to stop in the UP or DOWN position. If the opener exits the setup process when you attempt to set the down position, this means the opener timed out and will respond by blinking the light relay 5 times.

To resolve this, complete the following:

  1. Remove the belt or chain from the opener.

  2. Press and hold the Adjustment Button until the UP Arrow begins to flash, and a beep is heard.

  3. Looking at the wall control, press and hold the UP or DOWN Arrow until you see the LED or LCD screen flash on the wall control, remove any back up battery (if applicable) and unplug the opener.

  4. Place the trolley at the center of the rail and reinstall the belt or chain. This ensures the opener will see a passpoint during the travel programming.

  5. Plug back in the opener and repeat the travel programming steps.

  6. While setting the Open and Closed Limits, check the wall control to see if the LED or LCD screen will flash.

  7. If there still is no flashing on the wall control and you are unable to set limits, then replace the travel module.

NOTE: Make sure you also test the Safety Reversal System after making any adjustments.

New Obstruction Notifications

As of November 15, 2020, Security+ 2.0 Garage Door Openers are manufactured with obstruction notifications in the event the garage door encounters an obstruction.

Existing Security+ 2.0 Garage Door Openers that are connected to Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi Garage Door Openers only) have the firmware updated automatically. Note: Wi-Fi must be connected to the opener for the update to occur.

If the opener is not a Wi-Fi enabled Garage Door Opener and is within the warranty time frame, the logic board can be replaced. Replacement logic boards will provide the obstruction notifications once installed.

  • If the door makes contact with an obstruction while opening, the door will stop, the opener will beep, and the lights will flash 5 times.

  • When the door is in any position other than closed and the garage door opener is activated, the door will close.

  • If the garage door makes contact with an obstruction while closing, the door will reverse, the opener will beep and the lights will flash 5 times.

NOTE: For models 8500W, LJ8900, and LJ8950W the myQ LED remote light will also flash 5 times indicating a cable tension monitor error.
